— Music has Evolved from Analog to Digital : Death to music, or Life —
I see it as a death to music, and the freedom to be alive to music also.
It’s an evolution to music and to artists. The world doesn’t stop changing.
We went from analog vinyl record albums, I even remember the 78rpm singles in the 50’s & 60’s. That has been my early lifetime experience. Then we went from 8tracks, to cassette tapes, and then we went to CDs, which weren’t analog anymore.
In the 90’s we went to digital, and never looked back. I guess I’m looking back, as I write this. We have to reflect on our thoughts to gain wisdom. With the world like it is, I wonder what wisdom do we gain from folly. All I see is depression, I guess all wise men are manic depressionists.
The reason for this post, was the following video in my youtube feed. It was Lissie Maurus leaving LA for the farmlands of Iowa, because of the digital domain age.
The thought of the freedom to record your own music, and be independent from the gossip driven record companies. Where they own your music in a cage… let the music out of the cage. We are not prisoners in a cell.
Let the bird out of the cage.
I moved to Montana and had a stroke in 2004, which was a major attack on my musical skills, that were already failing. So I sought out web editing to make up for the failing, and this year I ordered more musical skill toys. I started in the end of winter with buying all the toys to make more music.
With all the hang ups and delays, it was making my life harder to stay motivated…I was beginning to hate music again.
Conclusion of the Evolution of Music
I will continue to look to make music again.
It’s been over decade, more like 11 years, since I gave up playing music. It wasn’t therapeutic to me anymore. Cause my right side of my body was attacked in the stroke, and lost the skin surface feelings in my hand. It was almost impossible to hold a guitar pick.
It was frustrating to play music anymore. When it was enjoyable and therapeutic before.
So I learned of all the new musicians, and heard their new songs for the last decade. I was impressed with their simplicity and their creativity. They inspired me to try and make noise again.
Cause music to me is just noise, a graceful noise or some discorded noise. Harmonious noise like a pleasant melody, or some ear scratching discordance like a bad punk band. Everyone has their tastes, even punk bands had their hits.
I like all music. I just have to be in the mood. Even the classical music which is orchestrated with many instruments, and have a conductor which directs the sections to play. They can come up with grooves that get the feet tapping… well not my feet tapping, but my hands on my legs.
Digital Age of Music
The digital age is not new to me, it was when I started in 1990 with digital recording equipment reaching $10,000-$20,000. Now the digital recording equipment is a sound card costing $100, and does so much more than the Spectral system.
You could buy a special recording system for about $1000-$5000 today. You have reacquaint yourself with the certain multitrack softwares, which are growing everyday, free and open source. So that everyone could be a record/CD producer… another ego trap.
Don’t fall into the trap of the ego… it will destroy you without mercy.
Your ego is your servant, but a tyrant as a master.
That is the trap, your ego is your master. Much like Trump being your president, when he’s your servant first. His ego is his master. He fell comfortably in his politicians chair/throne and was corrupted within 24 hours.
Anyway I went off on a political tangent there to prove or reinforce a musical trap, which your ego has a major part in. Ego has an important part in music, when it’s in control of the notes that you play in the musical pieces of the songs.
Egos are great musicians, but not great, when playing musicians, instead of the notes.
I’ve seen bands fall apart, because of the ego wars. Many have called me egotistical, at least I suspect they judged me egotistical. They were just too proud to tell it to my face, or I’m just an egotistical paranoid nut, that thinks there is something wrong with everyone, but himself.
I tend to think it’s the latter.
Well, I’ve talked about all that I want to talk about… especially the warnings of the egos.

“If being an egomaniac means I believe in what I do and in my art or music, then in that respect you can call me that… I believe in what I do, and I’ll say it.”
― John Lennon
“The Ego is a veil between humans and God’.”
“In prayer all are equal.”
― Jalaluddin Rumi
