— Human Genome Modification —
The UK made a law today passed by Parliament gave mankind the power of God to experiment on itself, where we could breed the perfect human with genetic modification. We could get rid of disease from human existence.
That would be a good thing, I don’t know much about genome research, only what’s been written about it, even then I don’t understand it, this video by TED it explains it for the most basic of understandings.
Most of the DNA information is in the nucleus of the cell, the UK passed a law to deal with Mitochondrial genome, which is different from modification of the cells DNA. It’s a bit tricky to understand, I didn’t know the mitochondria was part of the cell before I looked at Genome Project, and had it’s own genome.
genome = DNA sequence
Components of a typical animal cell:
| 8. Smooth endoplasmic reticulum 9. Mitochondrion 11.Cytosol (fluid that contains organelles) |
This is what I found out from Wikipedia, it seems we made progress from what I learned from biology in the 70’s. I probably learned it in biology, that the cell had mitochondria as a separate part of the cell, organelles to be precise, but I probably forgot; but maybe I’m just mixing up the atoms with cells, cause they both have nucleus
Atoms are much smaller than cells, multiple atoms form molecules, they make up the cells of the body. Cells are living organisms, and atoms are not, but they make up the cells. Do you understand that conundrum of info.
Well anyway, I was amazed by Physics and it kept my interest, this biological subject dealing with cells that make up the body, there is a statement that there are over 10 trillion cells that make up the body. Have you wondered how many atoms make up a human cell?
This needs more study before I say anymore, a quick review of the knowledge I learned in high school, and the new knowledge that happened from when my high school education in the 1970’s, and the massive education progression that happened from the 1970’s till now… remember DNA didn’t exist except by theory in the 70’s.
In 1869 there was a first isolated sample of DNA in pus from a dressing from a wound.
This was copied from Wikipedia’s DNA
DNA was first isolated by the Swiss physician Friedrich Miescher who, in 1869, discovered a microscopic substance in the pus of discarded surgical bandages.
Well that’s all I have for now, I learned more than I wanted to… it amazes me the more I learn, the more I discover my own ignorance, or misconceptions.
An endless amount of information is soon to be discovered which will lead to more info, and so on and so on…it never ends.
Update:
This news story gave me more insight into the egg and the sperm, the shell (cell with all the organelles, which include the mitochondria) surrounding is to be replaced by a donor.
Through In-Vitro(test tube Baby), the baby is born outside the body. The classic science fiction account of the future, the step to creating life by our desires…design…it’s a “slippery slope”.
