Anna Graceman – Dust – Graceman Band Version
We can thank YouTube for this post on “Dust”. I see it in all my browsing feeds. Like, they want me to comment on it.
So I bite the fishing hook, and I bite the line, cause I have the ability to be wrong, as much as right. The song I will critique is the song by Anna Graceman called “Dust”.
Here’s the Lyrics:
‘ Dust ‘
When rain will never fall
And darkness begins to call
To anyone who will listen
Under the influence
Beneath the star’s brilliance
Where we’re secretly wishing
Can’t keep up so we break down
Praising idols who wait around
We wave goodbye to our yesterday’s
We watch as they go
And then we just stay in place
Cause we really don’t know
What we’re doing, we don’t ask why
We give them our trust
Silently we look to the sky
As we turn into dust
Don’t question or act afraid
Mask all of your raging hate
They say we’re safe behind these bars
We’ve been told we’ll be freed with time
Follow orders and stay in line
Someday we’ll take back what’s ours
Can’t keep up so we break down
Cursing those idols who wait around
We wave goodbye to our yesterday’s
We watch as they go
And then we just stay in place
Cause we really don’t know
What we’re doing, we don’t ask why
We give them our trust
Silently we look to the sky
As we turn into dust
Embracing the pain as the days drag on
It’s the only thing that will push me along
I can’t find a way out
My hope is clouded by doubt
We wave goodbye to our yesterdays
As they’re free to go
And then we just stay in place
Cause we really don’t know
What we’re doing, we don’t ask why
We gave them our trust
Silently we look to the sky
As we turn into dust
Critique of the Lyrics
I feel words will only destroy such a beautiful piece, and I don’t want to do that. It’s someone’s artistic voice, and who am I to speak of what they meant. I’m not in their head.
I can only speak of what it means to me, and if I’m majorly getting it wrong, then I apologize to Anna Graceman.
Lyrics has always been an important part of a song, to me at least. I love a good long groove without words. I would always sing along to long groove, whatever I felt, and wanted to yell what was on my mind at the time. A spontaneous lyrical moment, the fact that I never knew what I was saying made it hard to recreate it, unless I recorded it.
Well get back to my critiquing of the lyrics of Dust, and stopping my tangent of an ego trip. It’s easy to start a long boring ego trip, and get lost, and a bitch to find your way home.
The talent of Anna Graceman goes without saying, she knows she has singing talent. The words are another nightmare to figure out, though I hate the ambiguity of my vocals too. When you have to explain your songs, they are too deep.
Sometimes you need deepness to keep them wondering, but simplicity is a sharp hook… deepness is a dull hook.
Conclusion
I‘ve gotten lost in the 2016 elections, I don’t see anyone I would pick and trust, so this is taking on the current situation for me. I don’t know if Anna’s a Trump supporter or not, or even a Hillary supporter, but I see the “We give them our trust” line as a political weight, at least that’s what it meant to me.
It talks of creation to me too, and masking our humanity’s feelings with humbleness, but everyone breaks down from the everyday trials. We need to rise above from the ashes of breakdowns and doubt. We’ll have our time to live freely when we return to dust, not by giving up, but by rising from our falls and failures. Cause every time we get up and rise, we are loaded with treasures, and become richer inside.
That is if you’re not a hoarder, like me… I’m so disorganized. If I want something, I have a nightmare looking for it… but if it’s inside me, I know where to look. No one can steal what is inside me… it’s silently safe.
They can disable me, but those are the riches of success that you collect for your future… what’s inside, cause that’s all you take with you.
I’m already dulling the point of the song. Too many words spoil the broth of the song
